Mario Kart Wii

Micah

Anyone else pick this up over the weekend? I gotta admin I found the Wii steering wheel peripheral to be pretty fun to use. I was a little worried about it but it ended up working pretty nicely. It's also got 12 player online play and the multiplayer setup, interface, and matchmaking are a HUGE upgrade to the Smash Brothers one. I wish they would implement everything associated form this multiplayer on the Smash Multiplayer.

So anyways I thought it was pretty good based on the couple hours I played yesterday.

It's pretty sweet. At first I was a little concerned with how much the wheel you would end up needing to turn and so I kept over compensated and ended up in the mud. After about a hour I was totally digging it.

I'll probably be picking it up when we're back from le trip.

Mike

I will post my # for Wii Mario Kart+SSBB soon.

This is going to be the dumbest question in the world. Do you have to subscribe to go online for multiplayer? Where do I get my Wii #?

Qyn's picture

Qyn

You don't need a subscription to play.

Go into the mailbox (envelope icon bottom right of the main screen) and click on the address book and you should be able to add 'friends' there, and it should also tell you what your Wii code is.

Hmmm....another Q: What kind of cable do i need to get to connect my Wii to the router (and thus internet?)

Micah

If you have Mario Kart if you gives you your Wii # when you first enter online multiplayer mode.

Also Brambles, the Wii comes with wi-fi built in. if you have a wireless connection it will automatically recognize it and connect through it. if it can be hard wired, which i'm not sure, it would probably be a regular cat5 cable.

Crazy Rambles's picture

Crazy Rambles

Comes w/ wi-fi!!? >.< then why did i buy that wireless thingy for it, ok well I'll examine it when i get home (ONLY 2 DAYS!!!! ^.^)
Our router is wireless so would i just give it the router's port # and pass then will it connect?
Then I'll finally be able to spend those 2K points on 64 games ^^

Brambles don't worry, I think your a tad confused.

The Wii unit comes with a wireless receiver. You need a wireless transmitter (the wireless router) in order to properly get connectivity. Upon setting up your router to your isp box log onto it with the default credientals and setup a wep or wpa signal. Also make sure to name your wireless network some unique and not the defaulted "d-link" ,"linksys", and etc.

Hope this helps

I'm not sure what the "wireless thingy" he's talking about is.....though I suspect it might be this. I have one of that I use to get our DSes online since they have no support for N band or AES/TKP encryption.

hmmm, I need to beef up on my computer terms first i think ^^;
My mom may know though sicne she has a laptop connected to the internet through the wireless router

Crazy Rambles

thanks for the info on the built in stuff, i now recall i was trying to use my wii in the dorm, thought it would connect to the wirless here or something, wasnt too sure, but I guess i wont have to worry since I have the Wireless router at home

Micah

Brambles, the Wii is insanely easy to hook up to the internet. I literally took mine out of the box, turned it on, it recognized that there was a wireless connection available and asked if I wanted to connect when I turned it on. I just hit yes and put in my network password. It was that easy. Chances are if you have a wireless network already set up at home you shouldn't have a problem. Like Keroth said you may want to make sure your network has a unique name though if there are other wireless networks in the area.

Crazy Rambles

Ah ok, i'll try that when i get home (tommorow!!!!) and hopefully will be able to get online w/ SSBB (waiting patiently at my house for me to get home)
Don't think there are other wireless networks in the area though, the houses are spread out and I don't think wireless has caught on in the neighborhood area I live in

I hate the friggin' blue shell.

Tigue (not verified)

We played it at Brizzle's place this weekend! So fun!

It's crazy fun. Ben and I tried like mad to get in touch with Vasya to play online, but he /snubbed us.

Vasya's picture

Vasya

Only if by "tried like mad" means "sent Vasya an IM on google talk instead of calling him".

IMing Vasya is no longer an expedient method of contact. You might as well just e-mail him.

Sumul's picture

Sumul

We called him twice, and I think I sent a text message.

I have a missed call from Ben Andersen on April 30th, and no texts or missed calls since then. Did you guys call on Saturday around 4:30 EST? We were watching a movie then, so maybe it didn't go through.

Micah

Thanks for including me in the Mario Kart funness Sumul! It's not like I've known you since I was 5 or something....

x.X
in MC DD! my friends and i always shouted out "Air mail!" to the other player in first, i guess from the parakarry from paper mario- winged-ness
Man...the one thing i hate about nintendo games is how the computer always cheats, either from letting the required car in front (in order to beat the palyer's score) to getting 3 air mails in a row, to just plain glitching and defying the game's physics
then again it in pvp games the system seems to have preferences too, usually towards the person who is most gun-ho for Nintendo...well i guess it isn't illegal so no foul can be called there

Brian's picture

Brian

I tell you what cheats the fucking cosmic comet in mario galaxy. Unless you know exactly how to jump off an item there is no way to beat it.

I usually end up feeding the luma to change the comet type when that one appears.

Vasya, I called you at 3:22PM PDT on 5/3.

Micah, I'll hit you up next time!

Ditto to you, and ditto to your ditto
Another random-ish tangent: I somehow got the strat guide for SSBM and it said ditto was one of the Pokemon to come from the balls, but he never appeared in all my centuries of playing it

All threads are now about SSBB.
