From worldofraids.com:
US: State Taxes on WoW Subscriptions
First, don't panic this is not new, it is meant as information for everyone who is wondering about the $1.26 charge they are finding on their bank account, and for others who did not know there was a tax in some states on WoW subscriptions.
Players in select states around the U.S. have found that their monthly subscription fee is slightly higher than expected. With the rise of many online subscription-based services, several states have begun to apply a tax to services that use such a model, and this tax is an additional cost that players are seeing added onto the base subscription rate.
Specifically, residents of the following states will be charged this tax:
Illinois
Massachusetts
New Mexico
New York
Texas
Washington

Sat, 03/29/2008 - 12:38amI think WA has been taxed for awhile, I mean, from what I remember paying when I was playing. I also remember there being controversy about it way back when, near when the game was first released. Also WA taxes everything ever. I guess it's what we get for having no state income tax.

Tue, 04/01/2008 - 8:31amOMG! it's true and it's pissing me off......I saw my MC bill and was like..hey no tax..then I got this email.....
Greetings,
You are receiving this email as an automated notice for your World of Warcraft account XXXXXXX, which recently charged your MC payment method in the amount of $14.99 for a recurring subscription or a service on 03/11/2008 10:36:39. Due to a temporary issue with our billing system, this transaction did not include the appropriate local sales tax.
To collect this tax, Blizzard Entertainment is issuing a *second transaction* to the same MC payment method. This second transaction will appear on your statement in the amount of $0.99 and should be dated 03/31/2008 21:36:44.
This transaction is a one-time correction. In the future, sales tax will be included normally in a single transaction. You do not need to take any action at this time, and access to your account has not been affected in any way.
For more information on taxes for World of Warcraft, please see this page on our official support site:
