Vasya once drove up to Susquehanna to visit me at my parents' house. When he arrived, he mentioned that he saw Wilkes-Barre on the way, and that it was definitely the biggest place that no one has ever heard of. I thought it was a great description!
The Office has put Scranton on the map, so I imagine more people have heard about Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by now.
The thing I didn't know was that Dragan was so popular there that they named a major street after her WoW character.
Ugh, Wilkes-Barre always reminds me of the infinite boredom of driving through PA on I-81 from Baltimore up towards MA each year when going back and forth to college. I hate that road. To me, I-81 plus I-84 define the ultimate in boredom. My parents always insisted on taking that route even though it was longer because of less traffic and because they thought it was pretty. Pretty BORING.
Wilkes-Barre also reminds me of Sallie Mae, who own my soul, and whom I have much bitterness towards through my dealings with them about my school loans. They are located there in Wilkes-Barre. From my telephone dealings with those people, I always assumed it was a town full of spiteful snotty bitches.
It seems I have no warm feelings for this place. We often stopped at the Friendly's there. I like Friendly's. I miss them on the west coast. Mostly I just miss Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Sundaes.
