Amaranthian in SWTOR information.

Amaranthian is currently active as a guild in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Invites are currently on a "Are you someone we like? Will someone we like vouch for you? Will you make Qyn a sammich?" basis.

Server: Master Zhar Lestin

Allegiance: Sith Empire
Guild Name: Amaranthian

Allegiance: Galactic Republic
Guild Name: Naihtnarama

We also have a Steam group that a bunch of us are using as voice chat. The Steam group name is Amaranthian. Once you've joined the group you can enter the group chat at any point without needing an invite (as you would for an impromptu group voice chat on Steam).

Players who have been guilded via TOR and would like an invite to the Steam group, or to view and post in the TOR section of the Amaranthian forums may make requests by contacting Qyn or Vasya. Let us know what your preferred email address and username are for the forums as well as your steam username/email address.

Imperial Agent SterlingArcher reporting for whateverthehell.

I suppose I should get a headset for voice chat at some point.

What up Geoff :).

Ok so there's like seventeen SterlingArchers in Steam. Which one are you? Feel free to add me - I'm "A Somewhat Stronger Monster". I should also be findable by my email address - pointy at gmail.

oh, my Steam username is something else altogether: dastars. I like to keep people guessing...

Vasya

Haha - ok well, I friended you and invited you to the Amaranthian Steam group.

Agiathas

Can I join the rival team? The Empire is a big jerk and bully. =P

Vasya's picture

We'll need someone to start the rival guild, I think. Janet might know more about this, since she was tight with a bunch of WoW players who were going to start playing TOR.

ZOMG MEEEP MEEEP MEEP BBQ FTW LOLZ!

Will try to pick this up at some point. Kinda debating because not sure I have enough time to play it. How is it for casual gamerz? (e.g. 3-6 hours a week)

Woot! Was REALLY hoping people would go for the Empire.

Oh, also, I remembered my login! Woot!

meep; so far it's very casual friendly. I got to level 10 in one sitting without any group assistance other than the occasional "hey dude thanks for blasting that guy in the face, who I was also blasting in the face. He died much faster that way." There's some group activities, but my impression so far is that BioWare took great pains to make it solo/story driven so it should remain casual-friendly. Just playing all 8 origins (up to level 20 or so) would likely keep you busy for a good long while.

Wait, you were playing last night, Geoff? YOU DIDN'T SAY HI.

I wasn't on last night. I thought about it but got distracted by Vas' Cracked list and started bouncing around Cracked. I played Sunday, and will probably be on shortly.

I'm not finding anyone's names when I try to add friends :-/ I'm on Zhar Lestin but it can't find Qyn or any of the other names I saw in the other thread.

I'm not online in game and won't be for another few hours. I don't remember if the friends list works without people being online or not. Shit is still buggy. If you're on Master Zhar Lestin, you're on the right server. What name are you under? I can message people and have them ping you.

yori's picture

yori

im on...yori is my toons name...
you can use "o" to open the social tab and go into who and then type in search "amaranthian" and that should pull up anyone in ama online...

Qyn's picture

Qyn

Oh, and we're Empire side. You did see that too right? I imagine you probably can't friend those rebel scum.

Killface's picture

Killface

Yeah, I'm an IA so on the right side of things. I can't find yori either :( I'm Sterlingarcher. Can someone try to add/msg me? I'm starting to freak out that I'm on the wrong server or something.

Killface's picture

Killface

So... ranged combat is rather dull. Putting Sterlingarcher on the shelf and reviving ol' Opet as a Sith Warrior. Maybe my friend requests will work better...?

Qyn's picture

Qyn

They did! Rebooting always works.

Sith warriors ftw.

Anyone need http://www.torhead.com/item/693NAu ? I can't use b/c of light side restriction but it's a solid saber for lv. 11.

yori's picture

yori

i think vasilix is the only other person in the guild who is lightside XD

Trumby's picture

Trumby

I have two who are light side as it is turning out, but they don't use sabers :p

Qyn's picture

Qyn

I'm going to end up lightside on Kaest because I don't want him to be all sith corrupted as a bounty hunter, just doesn't fit for me.

Whoa lots of star wars stuff going on here.

Is this game any good?

I'm only looking forward to guild wars 2 personally, I feel like everything I've seen about SwTOR is that it's a WoW clone with lightsabers. I hate the tank, dps, healer trinity, is that in this game also?

The only reason to get this would be to play with all you guys again. How long does leveling take?

Qyn's picture

Qyn

It's WoW with lightsabers.

However it also has voice acting and animated dialogue for every single quest in the game, and some interesting mechanics and concepts (holocalling if you're out of range of quests when a group member interacts with a quest giver, light side/dark side choices, companions and a crafting system built around them, group dialogue choices and rolling to see who wins the chosen option. etc).

It's definitely a Bioware game. They spent all of their time on the plot and dialogue and not enough time on things like making the AH easy to use. But my complaints are few and far between. It's the most fun I've had in an MMO since I quit WoW, and I've played a bunch of them since then.

There are tanking, dpsing and healing roles, still, but most characters have the ability to fill at least two of those roles.

Leveling is pretty easy. Max level is only 50 right now and Qyn (and Yui) are already at 32.5. Granted I spent most of my 10 days worth of holiday vacation playing, but I also have a lvl 20 character and some lower alts as well.

Being back in an MMO with a bunch of Amaranthians is pretty awesome, I have to say. I really missed playing with a bunch of you guys, voice chatting, etc.

Well, I'm not sure if you ever experienced the Final Fantasy XI AH, but I'm betting the one in TOR is better than that (at least, I hope it is!).
i'm definitely curious about getting into this game too, but I may have to hold off on it until the summer. Do you think I'll be able to catch up or play w/ ppl's alts if i hop on in the summer?

N8's picture

N8

So what's the deal with being lightsided or dark sided? I understand the dialog trees offer a good, neutral, evil choice but aside from role playing how does that affect your character? Can a dark sided Jedi become a sith and vice versa? Does your characters face change if you're really evil?

I've watched the class intros whats the most op right now? I'm leaning towards a sith inquisitor assassin since I'm used to stealthy mmo dynamics.

Qyn's picture

Qyn

@Bram, the summer is a ways off, but the max level is only 50, and it doesn't take too long to get there. I'm sure people will be rolling alts on and off for awhile. I had originally only intended to play one character and now I've got four.

@Nate, there are levels for a bunch of different game mechanics. Social levels, legacy levels, light levels, dark levels, etc. Each choice you make in conversation that has a light or dark option attached also has a number associated with it so that you level up as you progress (unless you make both light and dark choices, in which case you just remain neutral). Some gear requires specific levels of light or dark (or social, etc). You can roll any faction, and any class, and make any light or dark side choices that you want. You can be an evil Jedi, or a good Sith. As a good Sith, for example, you'd be able to wield lightsabers that are intended for Light side users, so you'd be running around with a blue or green (or other light side colors) weapon.

A side effect of being evil is that you gain Sith corruption, which affects how your character looks. Your eyes get progressively more yellow (maybe red later, not entirely sure as Qyn is only at Dark III), your skin gets more pale and you get lovely veins around your mouth and eyes. Sith corruption visuals can be toggled on and off in the preferences.

Qyn's picture

Qyn

Also I'm not sure which class is the most op, but several of the classes can stealth.

yori's picture

yori

lightside and darkside choices will have significant effects on how your personal character story progresses...i cant really say anything more about it without spoiling, but yes...it does affect things a lot more than you'd think...did you ever play kotor?...the system is almost identical

Crazy Rambles's picture

Crazy Rambles

Thanks for the info! Aye...the summer is a long way off. Maybe once I get a feel for my classes in the next few weeks then I'll see how my prospects of joining in will look.
Those dialogue options and such do make it seem to have what WoW really lacked. Sounds fun!

Qyn's picture

Qyn

Nate go check out Janet's dialogue wheel of doom post, it's got some good info on light side, dark side, plot, etc.

N8's picture

Sounds pretty cool actually. I like the fact that there's some role playing aspects to it. I played and loved KotOR I & II but that was like 6 years ago or something. I'm almost done with Skyrim then I've got Skyward Sword sitting on my shelf, after that I'd say I'll be down to start this up.

What are the classes you guys choose for your mains? Also why no bathrobe wearing Jedi love?

Qyn's picture

Qyn

I was originally going to make Kaest, my bounty hunter (powertech) my main, because I had the most fun on the BHs in the beta, but I ended up leveling Qyn first (or fastest) who is a sith warrior (marauder). Despite being unenthused about warriors in the beta, I've had a lot of fun on Qyn. I mainly credit that to the ability to force choke and throw lightsabers. I've also started playing an agent who has turned out to be a lot of fun, her name is Xyv and she's probably going to be a sniper.

The RPG elements are fantastic. If you enjoy plot and character building you will have a good time with SWTOR.

I think most of us will be rolling on the Republic side too at some point. I definitely plan to play a Jedi. We should form a Republic side guild too! <Niathnarama>, anyone?

Crazy Rambles's picture

Crazy Rambles

Niathnarama!! Definitely has my vote

Crazy Rambles's picture

Crazy Rambles

Oh, for the character building, what races are available too? I think it'd be fun to make a Yoda-ish character called Hyperbaton.
