so this quarter at school my final paper for english is basically a huge 10-15page research paper...we have a few choices for topics and one of them is about the redesigning of humans a la steroids, prosthetics, designer babies and such...as long as our paper is sort of close to the topics its fine...
anyways i think i can apply either cybernetics or bionics to that topic and i was wondering if you guys have any articles, books or any other type of information youve seen in recent about either cybernetics or bionics in the news...i know fap is going into physics (i think?) but i couldve sworn i heard him talk about making cyborgs as a joke...fap if youre really going into bionics and/or cybernetics/robotics do you think i could talk with you about it or use you as a source? =)

Sat, 04/10/2010 - 9:46pmI'm going into bioengineering, which is totally for the purpose of advancing human evolution. Unfortunately, I'm only a sophomore, so I'm not the best person to reference yet. This is some of the stuff I want to do in neuroengineering. Pretty fascinating. U of M Ann Arbor is doing a lot of brain/machine interface stuff, which is basically what I want to get into. I thought I saw some stuff recently in this vein in the news but I can't find the article now. I think it was about aging, but I've had a few beers since then and can't remember. We can totally talk about this stuff, but I'm no academic reference. I may be able to give you some ideas to help you focus your research direction.

Sun, 04/11/2010 - 9:48pmthat'd be great...you dont necessarily have to be pro at the subject because i dont really know what my focus is going to be yet...i could still use you as an advocate of the science or something...and yea bram...i was thinking about that...but you know english profs are always so keen on papers that have tension...so i might do it about advancement and people who think it's gone too far/religious connotations ect...

Mon, 04/12/2010 - 6:25amah, that'll be an interesting idea! Anything that interfaces with the brain would probably have quite a few moral or religious connotations too. There was that one religious murderer character on Johnny Mnemonic, right (it's probably more of a tangent to use him though)?
