I have been getting messages by email from addresses that resemble or LOOK like they might be from blizzard regarding account issues asking for account info including passwords and such, has anyone got anything similar before?
Blizzard doesn't need your account info or password to get into your account. If you're getting a lot of these e-mails it means your account email somehow got scraped by spammers. Not a lot you can do except keep marking them as spam =/.
Sadly, there really is no way to stop these things from coming in though spam filters have gotten better these days. I still get emails saying they are from blizzard, ebay, and paypal.
Vas is right, blizzard, or any company don't need your password or account info for anything and if there were issues, you'd be advised to call instead of "logging in to your account".
You have to admit though, these emails are getting better in looking official. I'm pretty sure a lot of people fall for it.
If you use Gmail, there's a Labs feature that will add a special icon next to verified eBay and Paypal emails so you can easily tell the fake from the genuine although Vas is correct, no one ever asks for your account name and password via email unless it's someone phishing for sum HAX.
Yeah. This is the second time someone other than you has logged into your account and fucked with the guild bank, except this time they stole half the stuff.
Yes, I did, somehow they got my information from my email account. I've never had issues with account security until I started using this laptop loaded with windows vista. Good thing I am going to have my old desktop back again soon.
I am definitely getting a blizzard authenticator soon, just waiting for some paypal things to get processed.
Mike, it might have been prudent to tell people that you had, in fact, actually clicked on one of the links. I didn't realize that you had effectively compromised yourself that openly. Vista has nothing to do with this - if you click links on phishing sites, you're inviting a keylogger installation. If you then actually put in your account information, well... I don't even know what to say. But you should have immediately changed your password from a different computer, and alerted our illustrious guild leader(or me, who would have alerted our illustrious guild leader).
I don't mean to sound harsh, but you were careless and it cost the guild a lot of bank materials. Please, be careful in the future. Don't, ever, _ever_ click on links in your e-mail that you're not SURE are legitimate.
By the way, uppercase and lowercase are ignored in URLs. So it couldn't have been that. Feel free to forward me the e-mail(pointy at gmail) and I can tell you the warning signs of the e-mail.
Mike did actually let me know about the same time he posted here.
I thought that I'd previously booted all of his characters out of the guild last time around so I wasn't overly concerned with logging in to make sure everything was kosher with the gbanks, but apparently there was one little alt left that I missed and as a result they did manage to bogart a bunch of shit.
I need to put a ticket in for that, and Mike it would be good if you did that as well, if you haven't already.
Hey, I am really sorry for all the trouble this caused. I hope it won't happen again, in the meantime, might as well get myself a blizzard authenticator...
Man, I am glad that whole fiasco is over. My account got banned because whoever hacked it also took the opportunity to use my characters for illicit economy manipulation.
I got it back. Someone probably reported one of my toons for doing wierd crap when it got hacked. I just thought it was funny blizzard sent a customer satisfaction survey when i got the account closure notice.
i know you want an invite back into the guild...but you sold your account and got hacked once, maybe twice, which caused our gbank to get ganked twice in the span of a few months...please dont take this personally but im going to propose that you be on some kind of probation for awhile...if you get an authenticator and stay online and hack free for a period of time...like a month or whatever...then you can come back...but i really dont think its the best thing for the guild with your history of recent if you jump right back in...

Wed, 11/11/2009 - 2:45pmNo sir. I'd ignore them unless it's actually coming from a blizzard.com address, but I doubt you'd get anything like that from them regardless.

Sat, 11/21/2009 - 10:41amSo are you fully satisfied with your ban? If not, how could we ban you better?
So what's that mean? You have to create a new account?
