Did you read this book? Did you then see the movie? I know I'm like 2-3 years late on this one..but I've been busy with the baby. I read the book last year and just watched the movie tonight. I only wanted to see it/read it because of the cool polar bears. It reminded me of my wow bear. I thought the book was weird and the movie worse.

I love the book (and the whole trilogy!) and I remember liking the movie, though that was a while ago now.
I think the book improves on re-reading, since the whole point becomes clearer.

I really enjoyed the trilogy as a child, although it seemed things began unwinding in the third. Definitely a good trilogy to read! I have yet to see the movie, but from my mom's description it like the "super-lite" version of the book.

Yeah, this was a great trilogy. I really liked it a lot. The series keeps getting better as you read through it too, which is not usual for series of books.

I was a little disappointed with the movie. They got the look just exactly like I imagined when reading the books, but it had none of the subtlety the books had.

The "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Phillip Pullman was amazing for me at least. I loved the first book, it does however get stranger and stranger as the books progress with alternate dimensions colliding and a cosmic divine war in the making against the "higher power" or god. Overall I thought he had well-made, absorbing characters, supreme elegance of style and tone, and a dexterous handling of “very big ideas" for what are essentially children's books.

The movie, ehhh. They got the look right but lost the magic in the translation.

Oh and for a great interview/article with Phillip Pullman check out this piece from the NewYorker: It ranges from his views on religion to the fantasy genre, he's quite an interesting fellow.

I remember now walking out of the theater making fun of the blatant and repeated references to Adam and Eve in the movie. Definitely way more blunt!

I love the books, but have yet to see the movie. After I finished my senior thesis in college I got hella sick, and my friends brought me those to read. They are awesome.

I've read the trilogy, I liked the books. Movies were pretty decent too.
