Not sure if too many people played the original, but as far as games go I found it to be pretty unique. A bit hands off on the RTS part (have heroes work under you and do their own thing, but you can post bounties and such to get them motivated). The heroes level up, can go to the B-smith, etc too. Plus, the original really dragged one into the fantasy kingdom with ferocious beasts, goofy wizard curses, and various guilds.
The trailer looks nice, but I feel they probably just scrapped this one together. Now, if only I had more money and time, but if anyone else is interested I highly recommend checking it out!
Oh snap! Original is only ten bucks! That's a keeper right there too!

No one shares my ecstatic anticipation? It's a great game to try, but I guess my promoting of such falls short of a worthy effort.

Tue, 09/08/2009 - 4:25amHaha, thanks! It's a fun game imo, but the elves mission is a bit frustrating! Trying to build up a castle and get some strong heroes in the beginning, and then a patrol of eight elves come in and wipe the floor with them. Then, if I actually get a foot hold, I never manage to wipe them out in enough time.

Tue, 09/08/2009 - 8:24amFucking elves. I need a goddamn fantasy setting without goddamn elves.

Tue, 09/08/2009 - 11:38amAye. They are killer marksmen, but build gambling halls and lounges in your kingdom, so while you're being assaulted by an occulus there's half your standing force in a gambling hall loosing money. It can't even be taxed!!

Tue, 09/08/2009 - 5:11pm"do you have any fantasy settings without elves?"
"well, elflorin doesn't have much elf in it."
"how much does it have?"
"three."

Tue, 09/08/2009 - 6:11pmWell, with the exception of a few missions you can pretty much avoid elves entirely! (I usually go with gnomes to build up the kingdom and I think that causes the dwarfs and elves unwilling to join)

Tue, 09/08/2009 - 7:43pmalso, i have a fantasy setting that i wrote that's basically without elves. there are things that people call elves, but they aren't the tree-impregnating kind that infest the genre. more like the old proto-european weird elves that steal babies and live in the ground.

Tue, 09/08/2009 - 9:14pmThe elves in Mythren were supposed to guard the town. They went out to hunt down brigands. Then the howlers came (half wolf, half lizard) and wiped out the village. Thorn was sad. He was the only one left.
Also, maybe villagers should learn some sort of defensive combat that branches beyond poke-em-with-a-torch-or-pitchfork. :\ then maybe things like thios wouldn't happen and heroes wouldn't have devastating pasts.

Wed, 09/09/2009 - 6:30amHonestly at this point I'd just want to have a fantasy world that doesn't have the word "elf" in it. It's so goddamn ubiquitous - even the people who have "different" elves have them as a reaction to the prevalent variety.

Wed, 07/21/2010 - 10:08pmINCOMINGGGGG RANTTTT!!!
Well, 2 more missions stand uncompleted before me (after I finally unlocked them). I don't know what goes on in their map-making department but I think they're about as crazy as those Bobobo-bo-bobobo writers. For a game with the key being indirect control they make ridiculously difficult maps. Heck, most of them on the first game almost are impossible without cheats (with them it's still a good chance one will end up losing).
The third to last map on Majesty 2 has you facing a new challenge of two rivaling factions that would cease one's claim to the throne. Ok, one is made of clerics and paladins. The other elves and rogues. It shouldn't be too hard to pit them against each other. Then the genius who made the map decided they wanted Satan to adopt them and therefore came up with the horrendous idea of putting the Player's castle in the main road between the two factions!!!! Both enemy factions start out with top tier heroes at their disposal and for most of the map you have to let them ravage your base until they get bored and go home to rest. Meanwhile the player has to build their own heroes, get upgrades, and somehow find a way to build the economy with two unstoppable armies pillaging, burning, and something else worse that has yet to even have a name thought up.
Well, while using the peasant houses that spring up and the main castle itself as decoys (they usually work as such) I build my base in the lower right side where the enemy hardly traffics. Uncountable re-trys and hours later I've finally beaten it. I don't really know how, maybe the game felt sorry for me.
Still, I decided to go after the "holy" base first once my troops got strong enough. Their paladins raped my city and I thought if I took out their base then it would be easy to finish off the baser foes. Their base put up a decent fight even though most of their heroes were away tearing down my own base. Their blasted peasants seemed to rebuild almost as well as my heroes (the few jokers who decided to show up for the counter-pillaging) dished out the destruction. I slowly beat them back and managed to finish off both building that built the pallys. I was greatly relieved up until I fully finished off the base, "Your sire, unknown to us they were also battling off an endless horde of imps." So now the bottom left corner of the map is crawling in the pyromaniacs from the nether.
Not too difficult, but by the time that was clear out and under control I understood the terrible truth behind the northern base of thieves. The elves were in their 20's and could tear apart even a dwarven tower with a few magic arrows by now. My heroes hoped to help but I now had more in the graveyard than on the field.
Parties! Band for of them together in a group and keep them alive! Finally I could afford such a luxury so I upgraded the Inn and made party after party. The elves still tore through my defenses but after making a crack grid of towers things didn't get destroyed as much.
The assault on their base with parties helped a great deal. It fell rather easily now that I had some elite red-shirt types in my army who could kill elves before they filled the world with arrows. Their magic towers thankfully didn't do nearly as much after the hours of upgrading I had spent on my heroes' armor and their base slowly fell.
I was happy.
Ending rant and tale of the P.O.S. map !!!!!
