Empire: Total War

I don't know if any members here are at all Turn-based Strategy fans like me, but I've been in love with the Total War series since Medieval: Total War. And this new game, Empire: Total War is going to have NAVAL BATTLES! OMG!!!

I'm really excited =D. There will be land battles too, of course, and it'll be based in the 18th century onward, meaning that it'll be tactics in the style of the American Civil War, or Napoleon. Dragoons, Hussars, Cavalries, Cannons, and everything! =D

We've faithfully reproduced everything you'd expect of this ranged warfare period; misfires, degrees of accuracy, cover systems, garrisoning, arcs of fire, and effective range are all playing their part beneath the surface. All of this detail isn't thrust at the user; much like the wind system in the naval battles, it's just intuitive. If my guys hide behind this wall, out of range of the enemy, they'll be ok; if they stand out in the open and march up hills into oncoming fire, they won't.

Civilization is great, but it doesn't have real-time battles. But yeah, I've loved the Civ genre since its inception as well. Have you tried Total War?

Zepplock

I think i did, something like Medieval War....
I liked the idea of alot of small units battling as units etc, but the game itself was not polished and looked like from 1995. Civ on the other hand looks great, has huge community modding movements etc

Haha, well if it's community modding you're looking for, Total War has those galore. Mad amounts of history/medieval warfare buffs are hooked onto this game, creating tons of different mods, with some of the more notable ones being the full mod to create Middle Earth(of Lord of the Rings fame) and Napoleonic: Total War, a mod for the Napoleonic times. The latter will, of course, be made obsolete by the release of Empire:TW.

As for the graphics - the campaign map in MTW looked like a Risk board, which some people didn't like, I guess. But if you looked at the screenshots for Empire, or even Medieval 2, you will have probably seen that the graphics problems have since then abated, although at the expense of needing a bunch more processing power.

I see, maybe I need to take a look at it.

p.s. Fallout 3 kicks ass

I reinstalled Boot Camp, just for Fallout. I couldn't get it running on my laptop, and of course, I had deleted by BC partition like 3 days earlier.

I ran through the intro real quick and it seemed to work fairly well, so I have high hopes.
