Blizzard Annouced SC2 will be split into 3 games

So blizzard announced that they decided to divide each race into their own game. Their justification is that they want to flesh out the campaigns more rather then 3 games. We all know it's to bring more profits and I think is a poor economical ploy by them

What do you guys think?

Recession or no, the fanboydom for SC is quite strong. I don't see it as hurting, particularly if they offer bundle discounts, or a D2D option if you purchase one so you can get the other(s) at a discount.

Plus, they'll have to do something so that multiplayer isn't crippled and allow for all three races to be playable, because that's their true bread-and-butter.

Not to mention h4x03rz will have their fun, as they always do.

This will be terrible for online games if you have to change each disk per race, unless they are all the same, but each has its own campaign mode
I'll be slightly upset about the split if:
=-they each cost ~50$....may be content if they are 20$ each
-one DOES have to change around disks for online play, they way SC I is set up w/ map editor it would be hard to imagine them actually keeping each race on only one game CD

But hopefully it's only for the campaign modes...but if so then those will be pretty long

after reading the article:
30 missions per race (and something about choosing one's path in the game) sounds good
"Pardo explained that the multiplayer remains relatively unchanged; each StarCraft II game will have a fully functioning multiplayer suite with all three races playable."
ok good!!
"More than likely, the successive products will add multiplayer content; we haven't decided right now what that is."
Hmmm....so after getting all 3 we can play online!! :D
*weeps*
The most important part though: Looks like the gameplay will be about the same as the original SC (thankfully not like the gameplay of WC)
so I guess I'll just have to twiddle my thumbs until it comes out and fork our a wad of cash for the three games (or will they be released at different time periods?--ugh)

"We asked about the timeline for the three StarCraft II games, using Valve's original prediction of shipping all three episodes of the Half-Life 2 episodes within a single year, but reality is that it will take more than more like three years. Pardo thought that was a great example and said, "It's a little bit similar to that in that it would be great if we could have them follow one year from one another; I think that's going to be our target, but certainly that's not a promise in any way. But I think that's going to be around the realm that we're going to be hoping for.""
-ok hopefully they won't make us wait a year btwn each game--I mean only 30 missions--should be a month btwn each...at most

Yeah...I think they should have the same multiplayer for all three games be the same (multiplayer is same on all three)
also by h4x03rz you mean the "stacking" and color changing?
hopefully the map/world editor will be a bit freer (one good thing about WC III)

By h4xo3rz I meant people who will put disk ISOs up on BitTorrent sites :)

Seems like another strategy to make alot of money over a long period of time.

No matter what explanation they give everyone knows this is just a ploy to make more money by activision <.< I can see them keeping the price at like $50 per game too.

50$ per game...hey! I have some left over truck-jacking equipment (and a guy who knows a guy who can track shipment delivery) We could 'extract' a few copies of each game from one of the trucks en route to a store ;)
But I really don't see what they could say to us to rationalize a 50$ price tag on each game--basically we'd be buying the same game over and over, and over but with a different "flair" added to it (also don't see why they can't fit 60 missions and 3 races on one game...doesn't seem that hard considering how easy it was to DL a map from battlenet that probably had as many, if not more, triggers than various campaign maps)
unless over this past year the Queen of Blades has infected the people in the SC developing group...and is planning to use all our money to buy exotic animals to incorporate into the Hive (although their space transport seems to indicate they already took the DNA of the water bear)
what were the prices on the .Hack games? (didn't they reduce the price on those?)--also note that the battle chest for SC is only 20$--a game the expansion, and the booklets (small sized/printed though), yeah the game is 10 years old, but still, tons of people play it and they could have gotten away with setting it at 30 or 40$
I'll just send some Banelings (not the SC ones, but the minions of Sorwraith ones) to go terrorize them if they gouge us w/ 50$ per copy

I would guess that each game costs $25-$30.
