How many of you have read it, and how many times?

I just finished my second time through.

I read a friend's copy back in like 2004, so I don't remember it too well. I'd like to read it again, but our friendly local comic book store is having a hard time keeping it in stock.

I've started it numerous times before, but I only finished it in full a few months back. I'm on my fourth or fifth read-through now.

I've read it four times I think. I let my friend borrow it like a month ago and he still hasn't even started it. It's so great that I just want to read it again whenever I talk about it. I just finished volumes 1 and 2 of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen again (speaking of Alan Moore). I love those also. Too bad about the movie : /.

I agree about the movie, it had some great potential but fell flat on it's face.

I've read it only once, but plan to reread it before the movie comes out.

Yeah dude, giant stiff foam arms do not Mr. Hyde make.

The movie fell flat? Are you saying that just based on the trailer?

I was speaking of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen .

That makes more sense.

Yea, that movie had great potential and was pretty cool in some respects and pretty FAIL in other respects. :/

Yeah... :(
Maybe they needed to make the movie "Extraordinary Movie of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"

can't wait till you're done. LOVE talking about it hehe.

Finished it.

I have to admit that there were some lulls in the attention grabbing. I loved Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan. I was a little bored with Laurie and her mom's story. Comedian was interesting if a bit one dimensional but I think that was the point up until the end.

But the ending was good, and unexpected. I actually reread the last 30 pages or so.

Still, A+ for Alan Moore and I'll definitely be seeing the movie. :)

The best part about that book is how original it was at the time. Before Watchmen most comic books were the four color hero-beats-bad-guy type. Watchmen came out and changed everything. Moore flipped the whole genera on its head, making the good guys conflicted and the bad guys win (and possibly be in the right all along). He also did away with thought bubbles, which hadn't really been done before I don't think (and I think it's a really important innovation). That, along with the metafiction (the pirate comic book mirroring the story), really blows me away every time I read it. I hope they don't fuck up the movie too bad, it would be a real shame.

20th Century Fox has apparently sued Warner Bros. over the rights to Watchmen, so god only knows when the movie will be released at this point.

Which is really sad, because I probably would have been less excited had I not seen the trailer. I am such a sucker for trailers, really I am. I fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

Whoa, wait a minute, I did read watchmen. I remember liking Rorschach too, and Dr. Manhattan, and that everyone was pretty broken.

Some interesting documentaries on the special effects behind the movie and the fact that many of the props, sets and backgrounds aren't just CG'd in during post production.

The movie was brilliant. Zack Snyder's adaptation really captured the comic, I think. He had to take some license with the plot but it was pretty minimal and the outcome was the same. I really enjoy the film. I think I'm going to go reread the comic again!

Glad to hear a good review and glad you enjoyed it!
I'm hoping to see it this weekend and Slumdog Millionaire too

I liked it too, it's not exactly the comic, but it certainly keeps the spirit of everything, and Rorschach is absolutely perfect.

I hear they wanted to make it "exactly like the comic" an the planned run time would be 12hrs...that would have been awesome

Qyn's picture

Qyn

Haha.

Yea Zack Snyder's original cut was over 4 hours long. I think he's going to release that on the DVD along with the sub-comic that takes place within Watchmen while you're reading it.

I thought the sex scene was way too long and bizarre with the soundtrack of "hallelujah" playing.

I was also disappointed with the flashback of Rorschach confronting the child molester/murderer. There was a lot more insight of Rorschach's character in the graphic novel compared to that scene.

Over all I liked it and felt it still had the majority of the elements true to the novel.
