The thing is, a metal toy isn't even a good choice if you like it cold, since the high thermal conductivity means it'll warm up fast to somewhere near room temperature.

Personally if temperate sensation is your thing than combine icy/hot in combination of using your nails while running ice cubes over the skin. The ice cubes will bring out the "icy" properties of the chemicals constricting the skin and bringing more blood to the surface.

Actually the walls of the female are overly sensitive to temperature change and such an adverse change makes it send the body into shock. As the body transfer heat to the item, warming it, the sensation of pain is replaced by pleasure. What before was just moderate pleasure from an inanimate object is now enhanced by the endorphins in the body.
It's like when I use knife play in which the sensation and fear of cutting sends so much endorphins when any type of penetration happens it's the trigger to say release them because mentally its a safe refuge from the "pain".
