So since I've been back playing the game since just Monday I've been experiencing terrible latency during peak times of 1000-2000 ms. After doing some research on the Blizz forums apparently it's a Time-Warner issue since June. Something to do with them changing servers and me having to go from NYC - LA via servers. In addition, ALL of my latency problems disappear when I switch over to a Boston server.

So basically TimeWarner is not going to do anything about this and it means either I switch realms or I get a new service provider. I don't want to switch realms but I currently can barely play >_<
What do all of you use in the northeast?
Here's the link to the 24 page list of complaints on the wowforums from TimeWarner customs in the NYC area.

Sat, 08/09/2008 - 10:19amBecause Time Warner is a monopoly in this area I'm forced to wait over a month just to get cable installed at my new place.

Sat, 08/09/2008 - 2:50pmBe glad you don't have Comcast - Jenn and I were offline, without TV and phone as well, for 80 hours because they disconnected my neighbor's service and mine as well, without realizing that only they were moving out.

Sat, 08/09/2008 - 5:22pmCable companies are by and large horrible. I have yet to find a company that was really even better than mediocre. It's pretty amazing that huge companies can get away with being terribad and there's no really anything anyone can do about it.

Sat, 08/09/2008 - 5:24pmI've had pretty good luck with Time Warner down here.

Sun, 08/10/2008 - 9:55pmAll ISPs are bad in some places and not in others. It's just a matter of luck and whether you have good wiring around the place where you live. If your wiring is good, so is your ISP! If not, they won't fix it until someone bitches at them enough that it's worth the money.

Mon, 08/11/2008 - 11:25amI've had the exact same issues nate. I live about 50 miles outside NYC and have TimeWarner for my ISP. Pretty much every night of the week my ping runs between 650 and 1500. Its pretty terrible. It's been that way for a while now.

Tue, 08/12/2008 - 5:50amWow this was pretty eye opening. I was shopping for a new ISP and new computer thinking mine may have finally kicked it cause of all my latency issues. I played on another server I used to play on last night and my ping didn't go above 67 the entire night. Want to buy this fixed.

Tue, 08/12/2008 - 8:37amYea, a lot of people have been dc'ing lately. A lot of people in completely different parts of several countries. Can't just be your ISPs.

Tue, 08/12/2008 - 9:51amI am sure its not isolated only to TimeWarner, but this is way more than just DC'ing once and a while. Like I said on my horde server I run with ping between 60-70 constantly. I haven't been below 600 on Arathor in over a month.
