Judging by this livesteam, btw, it looks almost stupidly like WoW. The livestream sucks, though, so I only see a few seconds at a time, and may therefore be wrong.
Anyway, time to sleep.
They're really going to have to go above and beyond Diablo II in many ways for me to be interested. Beyond graphics. I already have a game where I wander around shooting things that randomly run at me and am expected to group with people.
lol...got stuck on Diablo once untill i was lvl 45ish, has a very potent all summoning specced necro, but diablo's AoE just powned them, had to really buff up their resist/hp and got the amp dmg curse, and a bow w/ magic arrow
also <3 the acoint bar they seem to be adding, glad i wont have to be limited to 2 actions per wpn set (pressing "w" to switch wpn and spell set)
so basically the daiblo page breaks my computer...i can get to the splash but when i click on it firefox freezes and so does IE6...can anyone give me a direct link to like the trailor and gameplay movies or some shit?
Looks pretty solid. One thing I liked about Diablo is that it was a lot simpler to just sit down and play for a bit because there was a single player mode. One of the problems with WoW was that if I sat down to play, I wanted to play for a while so I could feel like I got stuff done... and that led to problems with time management *heh*
I hope Battle.net has indeed been "wickedly upgraded" because they're going to have an uphill battle convincing people to believe that there aren't rampant haxx0rz.
That said, I'll have a copy on release day, and may even venture online on occasion, depending on Jenn's mood and cost :)
They're really going to have to go above and beyond Diablo II in many ways for me to be interested.
Have you watched the lengthy gameplay trailer?
Yes, I finally could. It took forever to load.
It's pretty much the same as Diablo II, it looks like. A dungeon hack. New and creative ways of making your enemies explode as they attack you en masse. It's the kind of thing that will be interesting for me for a little while, but it will be tedious to get through the entire game like that. I slogged my way through Diablo II, yes, but I really couldn't do it again. I haven't picked it back up since the last time you and I played.
Multiplayer is kind of iffy to me too. If certain enemies can only be beaten by two or more people, I'm not interested. I'm all for cooperation, but forced cooperation sucks (see group quests). Also, I find I am bad at scheduling times to play video games. I would much rather just play the game whenever I feel like it for as long as I'm interested.
Thirdly, I like games where there are multiple ways to achieve the goal. I want to be able to sneak into a dungeon and achieve my goal by quietly dispatching a few choice enemies, figuring out traps, and picking locks. Alternately, magicking things to sleep and achieving my goals through spells, possibly not killing anything at all. Diablo III won't incorporate either of those styles of play, I'll wager. Sure, there will be a rogue class, but likely they will really just be a Cuisinart with combo points. Yea verily there will be mages, but likely only focused on combat.
Really, I don't need another hack and slash game. I have World of Warcraft.
I realize I'm in the minority, and that this game is destined to be wildly popular.
I might get it to play with you guys, but not immediately and definitely not at the release price.
Well, yea. Diablo has always been a hack n slash game and it's not changing with D3. It's going to be the mother of all hack n slash games tho. :) But if you don't like that game style then I can see why none of this would excite you whatsoever.
They're really going to have to go above and beyond Diablo II in many ways for me to be interested. Beyond graphics. I already have a game where I wander around shooting things that randomly run at me and am expected to group with people.

Matthew made me watch the whole VERY LONG GAME PLAY TRAILER this morning. Unfortunately my attention span is at the MOST 5 minutes. I think I broke Matthew's heart.
It looked 'splodey and shiny, the graphics and the way things move actually reminded me a lot of the Starcraft II trailers Matthew has also made me watch. It's funny, from playing WoW, to watch this trailer and realize how terribly un-bloody WoW is compared to many video games.
Matthew and I were planning on playing together, and we'd love to hang with you all from time to time as well, because I agree with Janet, I really ultimately just want to play with friends.

If you don't like multi-player games, maybe you should be playing Diablo 2 instead of WoW.
Edit: or Diablo 3.
I just explained why I didn't like Diablo II. I said no camels, that's five camels. Can't you count?
I do like multiplayer games. All for them. I even preferred cooporative Doom to deathmatch, way back when. But if you buy a game to play single player and occasionally mutiplayer, then find there is a boss that to defeat REQUIRES another player, that's not cool. Why, you ask? because it is really hard for me to coordinate with anyone else to get anything done in a video game, what with my crazy schedule and occasionally just wanting to play without the stress of people depending on me. Same reason I've declined to join Fireside. I'm really capricious about playing WoW.
If I had known that WoW would turn out as group-dependent as it now is, I probably never would have started playing it. As it currently stands I've got like a half dozen different goals I'd like to progress on, except they're all completely stalled because they require getting at least four other people to devote an hour or more of their time to help, and given that I have a lot of demands on my time and can't afford to be on WoW for hours every day trolling for PUGs, that's proving to be nearly impossible.
If D3 is more of the same I probably won't start playing it no matter how much D2 nostalgia it invokes or how sexy it looks.
I have a lot of fun in this game by doing things that should and otherwise generally do require multiple people to kill/beat/accomplish/win/whatever. Whether it's taking on multiple players in pvp, soloing high end content, etc. Same thing goes for finding ways to bend a character or class to do things it isn't supposed to be able to do. That said, I've never really been big on the diablo franchise other than having the desire to play for a few hours once every year or two. I might pick this up, I might just try to get it for free.
Handy MMO Champion coverage of D3 including a FAQ with answers like "Yes. In addition to battling the hordes of Hell cooperatively with friends over Battle.net, players will be able to adventure through the world of Diablo III solo. More details on both the single-player and multiplayer experience will be revealed at a later date."
The original Diablo was a lot of fun and I really anticipated Diablo 2. But somehow, the second incarnation bored me after a while. After a certain level, I wasn't able to bring myself to do any more.
Diablo 3 looks really nice, but more of the same. Then again, i've never played on Battle.net so maybe some online interaction might respark some interest in the franchise.
But, frankly, I am saving all my energy for Fallout 3.

Rainbows of blood?
I know in games mobs have had red, blue and green blood...insect mobs have had yellow....have most of the rainbow there...not they need to stitch their mouths shut!
also they should probably realize that Sanctuary has been a happy place for a while and things have had a chance to grow nicely
their progression through the game would most likely reveal a darker and darker world as Hell's minions & gangsters conquer more of the world

...did this person even play a Sorceress in D2?
oh well...
haha...story wise the dungeon gameplay seemed dark enough
(darker than the sewers under the Desert city)
but i mean...the whole world has had time to regrow so there will probably be a progression of lively flora to the dark and demon corrupted areas of the latter parts of the game
--just give those 'rainbow fearing goths' some n00b tissues for goodness sake (or for Evil's sake?)
Well IRL Witch would be the most gender neutral...all Wickens( or is it pagans?) are Witches, right? 'least that's what my roommate said, being a pagan himself
ehhh....wizard just brings the old man w/ giant beard (Merlin/Gandalf archetype) to my mind
then again most of the 'caster' types stuff my base ideals are derived from Ogre Battle 64 (probably due to their rigid class structures and the substantial lore that went with the game)
