Another laptop question

This is a quicky - Is there any reason not to buy a Vista laptop and format/install xp on it? Just wondering since I don't really want Vista but most laptops in my price range come with it now.

Some of the newest laptops come with hardware that doesn't have drivers that work in XP since MS has essentially stopped supporting it (now that SP3 is out). I'd check online to see if the laptop manufacturer offers XP as an alternative when shipped directly from them. If they do then it's safe to buy a Vista one and install XP yourself.

My hub got a refurbished lap top so that he could get one with XP on it. We got a great deal on dell.com.

sweet, thanks. i think my price point is going to be so freakin' low that i'm going to have to cut all possible corners. I just really don't want a desktop running xp and a laptop running vista. that's asking for trouble.

I have yet to encounter a laptop on the market which doesn't support xp, but I could easily be wrong (since it's impossible to know every laptop there is).

I do know all of HP Laptops currently have xp drivers no matter how new the technology.

I don't think Dell has stopped supporting XP on their new units since they are offering XP on all of the desktops anways as an OS option. They were forcing Vista on you for a while but that seems to have stopped.

I just tried to order a dell for my boss and XP Pro isn't an option anymore. You have to have vista now it seems.

you can still get xp on two different laptops, but only those two.

Lenovo lets you choose XP as an option still, here's their list of sub $850 laptops.

And a link to their new and refurb Outlet (clearance) area. I recommend the T series Thinkpads, I've had them for years. The clearance section is basically WYSIWYG but you may find some stuff with XP on it already.
