I know you guys love tea...so you are the perfect people to ask: I'm looking for a new tea kettle. Just the kind you put on the stove, nothing fancy. Any suggestions?
Ok, this is silly sounding advice...but, if you go to a store to look at tea kettles, take it somewhere you can fill it up with water (bathroom/water fountain) and try pouring from it. My parents have had the same kettle for a zillion years and it sucks because when you pour from it it doesn't come out of the spout well, it just runs all over the rest of the kettle, especially if it's not full or as you pour from it and the water gets lower and lower. This makes a huge boiling water mess. So, try it out at the store (people will look at you funny, but hey, you'll be less likely to burn your hands!) with cold water, at various amounts, before you take it home.
We've had an OXO tea kettle for years that's worked great, and I know a couple of other people who have that same kettle and been very happy with it; unfortunately the newer OXO models seem to be getting very poor reviews. However I know that the old model is still for sale at some places because I just saw it a few months back at a store in Chicago.
A key feature difference between the two is that the newer models have a spout that opens automatically, while the old model has a trigger that opens the spout, so if you can find an OXO kettle with a trigger I would definitely recommend it.
I have a COPCO tea kettle I am rather pleased with. I mean, it whistles nicely and it pours nicely. I bought it mostly because it came in cool colors, namely blue.
Thanks for all of the input I got a copco one. It's red =) I didn't try the water pouring in the store because it was purchased at walmart and I can always return it. =)

Sun, 05/25/2008 - 11:44amI have an electric tea kettle, so I'll be of no help. But Dragan's advice is solid.

Thu, 05/29/2008 - 7:15amThere are people who review tea kettles?
Eh, I should not be surprised. There's probably a fetish community dedicated to tea kettles as well.
