I've spent way too much time this afternoon messing around with this, but Nike has this feature called ID that lets you customize shoes, changing the color, material, logo (predetermined unfortunately) and text.
Check out the Ama shoe I made. This style only allows 10 letters so I couldn't do AMARANTHIAN and had to settle for AMARANTHE.

Thu, 05/15/2008 - 11:18amI have this pair of Golas that I bought used from buffalo exchange about 6 years ago for 18 dollars. they look newer than my 4 month old diesels. i've been trying to find another cool pair of them but i haven't had any luck. they're deffinately the best constructed shoes i've ever owned, including the boots i burned through during my mopey black nail polish days.

And they seem to be extremely popular in Europe (or maybe just France) as there were entire sidewalk-based stores/stalls dedicated to Gola shoes in Paris.
